Mexico, and surrounding regions known as Mesoamerica, is considered one of the six “cradles of civilization”[efn_note] Mesoamerica in Cradle of Civilization, Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cradle_of_civilization [/efn_note].
“Peso”, the term utilized for currency in Mexico, is the Spanish word for “weight”. It has been used in reference to pesos oro (gold weights) and pesos plata (silver weights).
“Aztec”, is the name given to the peoples linked by religion, culture and trade, that resided in central Mexico, in the the half-millennium, prior to the arrival of the Spanish in 1519. The region of Mexico was dominated by three peoples, the Toltec, the Mixtec, and the Maya.
In the Americas, the first printing shop (1539), first university (1551), first public park (1592), and first public library (1646) all were located in Mexico.
